In the past few weeks, the state of Assam has witnessed colossal destruction due to the ongoing floods that have caused massive infrastructural damages all over, besides causing many deaths. On Wednesday, Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram page to speak up about the issue.
Sharing a long note in her Instagram stories section, Alia Bhatt wrote, “Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time. More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock... and for some, even the people they love.”
Urging her fans to support the relief efforts, Alia added, “It happens every year and it still catches us off guard. Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it'll need support for the long road to recovery. If you've been wondering how you can help, I'll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground.”
In the past few days, many film figures like Bhumi Pednekkar, Raveena Tandon, and Salman Khan have used their social media pages to bring attention to Assam Floods. According to some reports, Salman Khan is planning to initiate an on-ground relief operations, with support from his fan clubs in the state.
As per a BBC report dated July 28, at least 68 people have died in the past four weeks, including 58 in the past week alone, while around 40 remain missing. According to Government data, more than 600,000 people have been affected, with thousands being displaced and living in relief camps.
