Amidst the recent discourse around Sonam Wangchuk’s reported influence on the 2009 film 3 Idiots, followed by Aamir Khan denying having any knowledge of the writers being inspired by the educator, there were a few reports about the makers of the iconic 2009 film planning a theatrical re-release of their film.

However, on Wednesday, the producers issued an official statement, denying any such development. Taking to their official Instagram account, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films shared a note that read, “With reference to recent media reports claiming that 3 Idiots will be re-released on 4th September, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films would like to clarify that these reports are false and factually incorrect.”

Official update from 3 Idiots producers

The production house also requested media and fans to rely ‘solely on official announcements’ made through the banner’s verified channels, also urging publications to avoid publishing unverified info.”

The unverified reports about 3 Idiots’ re-release had taken everyone by surprise, especially after a statement by Aamir Khan at a recent public appearance where he denied that his iconic 3 Idiots character Fungsuk Wangdu was inspired by Sonam Wnagchuk, also asserting that neither him nor the writers had any knowledge of the same.  Besides being a massive global blockbuster, 3 Idiots also made a huge cultural impact on the young generation, besides throwing light on the flawed educational system of the nation.

However, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films is indeed planning a grand re-release of their 1994 film 1942 - A Love Story, which will arrive in cinemas again after being restored in 8K, with its sound remastered in Dolby 5.1. This restoration iwas made possible by the remarkable teams at L’Immagine Ritrovata, Bologna, and Prasad Film Lab, Chennai, as Manisha Koirala shared in her Instagram post announcing the film’s re-release.
