Mirzapur: The Movie, the much-anticipated film spinoff of the popular OTT series, is set for a September release. The first teaser of the film, which was released a few weeks ago, promised for it to have plenty of gore and violence. Recently, director Gurmmeet Singh spoke about how the team is gearing up for an A-rating certificate for their theatrical release.

In an official statement, Gurmmeet said, “We're targeting an Adults Only certification straight away. Then, of course, the CBFC has its own guidelines regarding language, what we can say, and what we can't. We've tried to manage that and strike the right balance."

The filmmaker also referred to other recent blockbusters which became huge moneyspinners despite the limitations of adult audiences. The director added, “I also think audiences have matured. If you look at films like Animal, Dhurandhar, and several other recent releases, you can see that adult storytelling is now finding space in theatres. I think that has also set a precedent, allowing us to bring something like Mirzapur: The Movie to the big screen without watering it down."

Besides featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, and Ali Fazal in the lead roles, Mirzapur: The Movie has Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohitt Maalik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, and Sonal S Chauhan.

The actioner is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment. Written by Puneet Krishna, and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment and co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani, the film is slated for a grand theatrical release on September 4. Besides Hindi, the film will also release in Telugu.

Gurmmeet Singh has previously directed Inside Edge, Phone Bhoot, and two seasons of Mirzapur, among other projects.
