July 15 marks the completion of 15 years for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), Zoya Akhtar’s sophomore directorial from 2011 which was a massive commercial hit and an award-favourite. On Wednesday, Farhan Akhtar, who was onboard for the project as actor, writer and producer, took to his social media page to mark the occasion.
Sharing a series of BTS stills from the sets of the film, many of them unseen, Farhan captioned his post, “15 years. Still seizing the day. Celebrating 15 Years Of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.” Notable film figures like Shreya Dhanwantary and Sikandar Kher congratulated the team on the occasion, in the comments section.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, ZNMD revolved around three old friends — Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), Kabir (Abhay Deol) and Imran (Farhan Akhtar) who reunite for an elaborate Spain trip that also doubles up as Kabir’s bachelor trip, make amends for old rifts, and rediscover themselves in the process.
In ZNMD, Farhan played the role of Imran, a carefree adman who secretly harbours a deep emotional wound as he attempts to reconnect with his biological father (Naseeruddin Shah). Besides playing Imran, Farhan also penned dialogues for the film. Meanwhile, Zoya Akhtar teamed up with Reema Kagti for story and screenplay. The ensemble cast of ZNMD included Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, Deepti Naval, and Suhel Seth. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy gave music for the film, which became extremely popular.
Made on a reported budget of Rs 45 crore, the film earned Rs 153 crores at the box office worldwide, establishing its status as a clean hit. Besides winning countless popular awards, ZNMD was also the recipient of Two National Awards — for Best Choreography for the song ‘Senorita’ (Bosco-Caesar) and Best Audiography (Baylon Fonseca).
