After making Rs 34 crore net from domestic collections in its opening weekend, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari-starrer YRF spy-actioner Alpha witnessed a 71 per cent drop in collections on Monday. The Shiv Rawail directorial had made Rs 13.25 crore net on Sunday, its highest one-day collection so far, but on Monday this fell to Rs 3.85 crore, as per trade tracker Sacnilk.com.

It should also be noted that the film ran 6,997 shows on Monday, which was less than that of the previous day (7,439). With Monday’s earnings, the film’s total India net collection stands at Rs 37.85 crore, while the India gross has reached Rs 45.34 crore. Worldwide, the film has earned Rs 63.64 crore.

The Monday number marks a sharp decline from the film’s weekend run. Alpha had opened on Friday, July 3, with a collection of around Rs 9 crore, before growing about 25 per cent on Saturday to an estimated Rs 11.50 crore.

The film is facing stiff competition from Welcome To The Jungle which has already made close to Rs 117 crore in two weeks since its release.

Alpha is the seventh film in the Yash Raj Films’ spy universe and its first led by female actors. It follows Sita (Alia Bhatt) raised in isolation and trained into a lethal covert operative by Lt Col Fateh Singh (Bobby Deol), the man she has grown up believing is her father. When she uncovers a devastating secret about her stolen childhood, she goes rogue, and her trail leads her to R&AW chief Vikrant Kaul, played by Anil Kapoor, and to Durga, played by Sharvari, a spy raised far away in Spain.

It is directed by Shiv Rawail, known for the 2023 drama series The Railway Men.
