After almost a month in theatres, Dhurandhar has officially crossed the Rs 1,100 crore mark at the global box office, breaking several records surpassing collections of blockbuster Bollywood films like Pathaan, Jawan and Chhaava. While the has been receiving rave reviews from celebrities and fans following its release, it has also been significantly criticised for its hyper violent narrative and catering to right-wing ideologies. Now, the film has undergone a revision, with a new version playing in theatres from Thursday, January 1, 2026.
As per a report, cinema halls received an intimation regarding replacement of the film's Digital Cinema Package (DCP). A source told Bollywood Hungama, "The reason for the change is that the makers have muted two words and changed a dialogue in the film, as per the directives received from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India."
The new version reportedly has two words muted, one of which is said to be 'Baloch'. Another dialogue has also been changed in the film.
Despite the controversies surrounding it, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has been seeing large footfall in theatres. It follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative (Ranveer Singh as Hamza Ali Mazari), who infiltrates Pakistan's underworld at the behest of an Indian spymaster Ajay Sanyal (Madhavan).
Besides Ranveer Singh, the cast also features Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal of the ISI. Sara Arjun took on the role of the female lead for the first time in this film after being part of several projects as a child actor.
As reported earlier, Dhurandhar 2 is set for a March 19, 2026, release in theatres. Apart from Hindi, the film's makers are set to release its sequel in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu as well.
