After hearing the petitions filed against the makers of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, Kerala High Court has passed an interim order for a stay on the film’s release. Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film was set for a theatrical release tomorrow

The ruling comes after Kerala HC’s hearing of the three petitions filed against the makers. In one of the petitions, Sreedev Namboodiri alleged that the title and promotional material of The Kerala Story 2 contained dialogues which were capable of inciting communal violence and harming the reputation of Kerala. In another petition, Freddie V Francis challenged the use of ‘Kerala’ in the film title, arguing that the film’s storyline had little to do with Kerala or its nativity and questioning the makers’ claim that film is based on true events.

In its judgment, the Court also remarked that CBFC was not thoughtful enough while granting certification to the film. Additionally, the Court granted a period of two weeks to consider the revised petitions filed against the film. In practicality, this means that The Kerala Story 2 cannot be released until new set of orders arrive from CBFC.
