We had previously reported about the row around title of upcoming Manoj Bajpayee starrer Ghooskhor Pandat, which drew a lot of flak with many on social media accusing the makers of defaming Brahmin community by using ‘Pandat’ in a derogatory manner. The makers had then announced that they will pull back all promotional material that uses the title. Now Supreme Court had dismissed plea against the makers, after producer Neeraj Pandey filed an affidavit, assuring the bench of a title change.
The affidavit read, “I respectfully submit that the earlier title, Ghooskhor Pandat, stands unequivocally withdrawn and shall not be used in any manner whatsoever.” In the affidavit, the filmmaker also assured that the new title will be similar in any way to the earlier title, to which objections were raised, and confirmed that all publicity content has been withdrawn prior to the listing of his petition.
Besides dismissing the plea against the makers, the Supreme Court Bench also urged YouTubers to put a quietus to the controversy. It is to be noted that there were several protests held against the makers of the film in cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Lucknow.
Netflix is yet to announce a new release date for the Manoj Bajpayee starrer. The film is directed by Ritesh Shah, who has also penned the story with Neeraj. It is produced by Neeraj through his banner Friday Filmworks. Besides Manoj, the film stars Nushrat Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, and Divya Dutta.
