Aamir Khan, whose last film as a lead actor Sitaare Zameen Par released in June 2025, has headlined only 5 movies in the last 10 years. His other on-screen appearances include cameos in Coolie, Happy Patel and Salaam Venky. In a recent interview, the actor talked about focusing more on acting than film production in coming years.
Speaking to Variety India, the Laal Singh Chaddha actor spoke about his decision to focus on acting, and taking a step back from production work. “My company, Aamir Khan Productions, is now being headed by Aparna Purohit. Of course, I am there if needed, but I want her to independently run AKP. All the projects that we had greenlit before she came on board are releasing in 2026."
Sharing that most of his energy was being consumed with film production in recent years, Aamir said, “The moment I’m producing and acting, obviously, my acting time gets reduced, you know? I can’t give that much time to myself as an actor; I have to focus on my films, which I’ve taken on as responsibilities. For the last few years, I had to focus on two things. Now I’m focusing only on myself as an actor. I am quite excited about reading different stories and am wondering what to pick next."
As a producer, Aamir is also backing Ek Din, the romantic drama starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan in the lead. Additionally, there is the much-anticipated Lahore 1947 in the pipeline, a period drama starring Sunny Deol in the lead and directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi.
Meanwhile, his upcoming projects as an actor reportedly include the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic.
