The official trailer of Kareena Kapoor-Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer Daayra was released on Monday morning. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the investigation-thriller is set for theatrical release on September 18.

Inspired by true events, Daayra revolves around two reputed police officers Raman Kumar (Prithviraj) and Ajooni (Kareena), and how a missing case of a young girl places them on the opposite ends of the system, bringing out their contrasting working methods and ideological bent. Raman, who has had a shady record with staged encounters and police brutality, finds himself cornered as Ajooni challenges him on every step. As their paths collide, the film examines truth, accountability and the moral boundaries of justice, leaving the audience to confront the questions at its heart.

This is the first time Kareena and Prithviraj will be sharing screen in a movie. Among others, Daayra features Biswapati Sarkar and Jitendra Joshi in key roles.

Meghna Gulzar is known for making thrillers like Talvar (2015) and Raazi (2018) among other films. Her last release was the Vicky Kaushal starrer biopic Sam Bahadur (2023).

Besides helming direction for the film, Meghna is also credited as the editor, alongside Charu Shree Roy, and as a writer, sharing writing credits with Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal. Parvez Shaikh has choreographed the action for the film.  Among others in the technical team, Daayra has Saurabh Goswami ISC as the cinematographer and Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray as the production designers.

Interestingly, Daaya also marks the first collaboration between Amit Trivedi and legendary lyricist Gulzar.

Produced By Vineet Jain and Dhaval Gada, with Amrita Pandey onboard as a co-producer, Daayra will clash against Vibe, the Kunal Kemmu-Preity Zinta starrer comedy which too releases on September 18.
