Director Anurag Kashyap doesn’t seem to have taken well to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of “dimagi naxals (intellectual Naxalites)” during his Independence Day speech. The filmmaker, who has often got into trouble because of his opinions, took to social media recently to condemn the PM’s words.
“Ye budhau logon ko sach mein aaj ke bachche samajh mein nahin aate. “DiMagi Naxal” bol ke lagta hai inko koi brahmastra chhoda hai (These oldies really don’t know today’s kids. They say “intellectual Naxalites” and feel as if they have fired some big weapon),” he wrote in a note on Instagram.
“Uncle, bachchon ko Naxal kya hota hai wahi nahin pata, pehle kitabon mein se jo chapter delete kiye hain wo wapis daalo. Lekin phir uske liye school chaloo karne padenge aur teachers bhi chahiye honge. Mera suggestion hai thoda “Therapy” kar lo. Bahut zaroori hai. Uske baad manipulation ke liye Gen Z ki bhasha bhi seekhni hogi agar un tak pahunchna hai. Aur uske liye aapka padha likha hona bhi zaroori hai (Uncle, kids don’t know what a Naxal is. First restore the chapters you have deleted from schoolbooks. But the, for that, you have to restart schools as well and then you will need teachers too. My suggestion is do a bit of “therapy”. It’s necessary. After that, for manipulation, you will have to learn Gen Z’s language if you want to reach out to them. But for that you also need to be educated),” he added.
In another post Anurag declared himself as “dimagi anti-establishment”, he also stated that he is a bigger patriot than Modi. “Main “DiMagi anti establishment” hoon aur Modi se bada desh bhakt hoon. Agar galat hai toh mera deshdroh saabit karo (I am a ‘DiMagi anti-establishment’ person, and a bigger patriot than Modi. If that’s wrong, then prove that I am anti-national).”
In the caption of the post he wrote, “Aur chacha ka desh “indifference” mujhe saabit karne ki zaroorat nahin , uska praman Adani hai aur bhi bahut hai jo doosre dimagi naxal aur cockroach kar rahein hain. In other words - “DESHDROH” (And as for uncle’s country, I don’t need to prove his ‘indifference’; Adani is proof of that, along with many others who are acting like ‘intellectual naxals’ and cockroaches. In other words — ‘ANTI-NATIONALISM’.”
On the work front, Anurag’s last directorial was Nishaanchi, starring Aishvary Thackeray and Vedika Pinto.
