Although it was previously announced that Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer courtroom drama Prahaar will release on August 7, the film, after missing the window, now has a new release date. The Avinash Arun Dhaware starrer will now land on the big screen on October 16.
With the Independence Day weekend, August is a packed month for Hindi films in theatres. Two anticipated releases—Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947—are already clashing on the box office on August 14. Yash’s Toxic is also landing this month.
It should be noted that Rajkummar’s another release Raftaar, also starring Keerthy Suresh, is also releasing on October 16. Will the two Rajkummar films clash on the big screen or will any of them will be shifted is yet to be seen.
Prahaar follows the determined pursuit of special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, as he follows the trail of 26/11 attacks, leading India to the bigger conspiracy at hand. While Ujjwal also worked on other high-profile cases like 1993 Bombay bombings and the Gulshan Kumar murder case, Prahaar will focus on his pivotal role in the 26/11 Mumbai attack investigation.
Maddock Films is backing the movie, which also stars Wamiqa as the female lead. Rajkummar and Wamiqa have previously worked in Bhool Chuk Maaf. Prahaar also marks the 8th collaboration between Rajkummar and producer Dinesh Vijan who have collaborated on films like the Stree franchise, Raabta, and Made in China among others. The ensemble cast for Prahaar include Sikander Kher and Jaideep Ahlwat.
Earlier this year, Rajkummar had penned a long note about his intense physical prep for the film, which included gaining 9-10 kgs for the role. Incidentally, Rajkummar’s upcoming projects include another biopic — Dada, which is based on the life of cricketer Sourav Ganguly and is being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.
