Ranbir Kapoor, along with producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari, have been actively promoting the much-anticipated Ramayana: Part I, which is set to release internationally on November 6, followed by domestic release on November 8.  The official teaser of the film, which was released few days ago, received plenty of criticism for its VFX work, with some netizens even alleging that the Ramayana makers have used generative-AI visuals for their film.  During a recent interview, Ranbir Kapoor replied to the said critics, dismissing the allegations of AI use. 

Speaking to Collider, Ranbir said, “In the last few years, there has been a phenomenon where a large number of people are CGI critics. They see a trailer, and they are always critiquing something. It’s quite funny sometimes because people who don’t know CG is done, they think someone has used AI. Whereas, there are countless hours of work where artists are working for years. I’ve seen Nitesh and Namit sir sit on VFX calls ever since this project started, trying to get even the colour of the sky right.”

At the same time, the Animal actor admitted that it’s ‘tricky’ to impress the contemporary audience with authentic CG. 

During the same interaction, Namit Malhotra argued that VFX or CGI work cannot be accurately evaluated after being consumed on mobile phones. “The issue is not that we’re saying, ‘Consume it only on the big screen.’ Consume it wherever you like, but if you have a point of view, you’ve not heard the right sound or watched the right visual, and you’re making a comment on something which, to me, is unfortunately inaccurate,” he said. 

Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Ramayana stars Sai Pallavi and Yash in the lead cast. The massive ensemble cast includes actors like Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, and Vivek Oberoi among others. 

While the first part of the film series will release this year, the second part is scheduled to release next year in November.
