It has been 25 years since the release of Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai, starring Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta in important roles. The actor-filmmaker has been celebrating the 25th release anniversary of the film over the last few days.
Earlier this Wednesday, Farhan took to social media and shared his storyboards with illustrations for his characters in the film. The text in the notebook next to some of the sketches describes the specific camera movements that he wanted to use for it, such as 'dolly out' and 'dolly in' shots. "Long before AI and before software was easily (think affordable😜) available, this was how I did my storyboards on Dil Chahta Hai. Hand drawn with every character looking like a fingerprint. Maybe that’s what made them unique. Any guesses on which scene? Comment below," he wrote as the caption for the post.
Farhan Akhtar's post grabbed the attention of his industry peers and general audiences. "I love this," wrote actor Shreya Dhanwanthary in the comments section. On the other hand, actor-television host Meiyang Chang referenced an iconic dialogue from the film in response to Farhan's question. "Haan main…magar woh… suno toh… lekin main...," Meiyang wrote before adding, "can never forget this entire film, man!"
Farhan's sister Zoya Akhtar said that she recognises the sketches, whereas his wife Shibani Dandekar expressed her love and appreciation for his work.
At the same time, actor Karanvir Sharma wrote, referring to a scene from the film, "Yaaar tu Priya se itna darta kyun hai ? Mard bann! Be a man !!" He added, "I can’t believe i still remember all the dialogues that too after so many years. What a legendary film."
An exploration of friendship and human relationships in urban India, Dil Chahta Hai is widely regarded as one of the best Hindi films of all time.
