Sunny Deol is gearing up for the August 14 release of his film Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions. Recently, the actor had the film screened to his family members, eliciting an emotional reaction from them. Also starring Shabana Azmi and Preity Zinta, the film follows the events in the Partition era, especially the struggles of families as they are forced to go away from their native places.

The themes in Batwara 1947 of family, trauma and humanity resonated with Sunny Deol's family, the actor revealed during a recent interview with Variety. "They have seen the film. They all loved it, because it is a very emotional film," the actor said. Speaking about his mother Prakash Kaur's response, Sunny shared, "She was in tears," and he added, "Everybody was in tears, because the film is about family and humanity. It is about the pain and agony a person goes through, and still wants to survive and fight for one another. The end shows the victory of humanity. That is the beauty of the film."

Preity Zinta also echoed her co-star's sentiments regarding the film and underscored that it explores the different reactions of members of one family to the same circumstances. "The younger blood thinks differently, as they think they can change the world. The mother just wants to bring the family together, and the father is the protector, but he also stands up for what he believes in. Sometimes what you believe in can be completely contrasting to what is good for you. It is also about having a backbone and being able to see yourself face to face in the mirror," said Preity.

Featuring music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar, Batwara 1947 also stars Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sunny's son Karan Deol.
