The other day, actor Sohum Shah took to social media to announce that his production banner is joining forces with Dr Jayantilal Gada's Pen Studios label for Tumbbad 2, a sequel to the actor's 2018 horror film. Tumbbad co-director Adesh Prasad is set to helm the second instalment in the horror film franchise. Making the announcement, Sohum wrote that he is "excited" to "joins hands with Pen Studios" to make "the next chapter in the Tumbbad universe." He added, "With this collaboration, Tumbbad 2 becomes not just a film, but a promise to together push boundaries, celebrate storytelling, and deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience."

While announcing the sequel to Tumbbad around this time last year, Sohum said that it would explore the thematic element of greed in a deeper way and would have "bigger twists" as compared to the 2018 original. Sohum also produced the first part, co-directed by Rahi Anil Barve. The film starred him as a greedy father seeking a mysterious treasure protected by a malevolent entity known as Hastar. The audience appreciated the film for its immersive making, allegorical themes of patriarchy and greed, dialogues, and performances. The line, "So ja warna Hastar aa jaayega" (Go to sleep, otherwise Hastar will come), said in order to scare kids to hit the sack, became iconic. The film hit theatres again last September, around the time the makers announced a sequel to it.
