R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns to re-release in theatres

R Madhavan and Kangana Rananut’s romantic-comedy Tanu Weds Manu Returns will be re-released in theatres on September 26, the makers announced on Monday. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the romantic-comedy drama originally released in 2015.

Speaking about the re-release, Pradeep Dwivedi, Group CEO, Eros Media World said, “We are delighted to partner with PVR INOX for the re-release of Tanu Weds Manu Returns as it marks a decade since this cultural phenomenon first captivated audiences. This film represents everything we stand for at Eros - bold storytelling, authentic characters, and cinema that sparks meaningful conversations.

The first part, Tanu Weds Manu, came out in 2011 and told the story of an introverted NRI doctor, Manu, who falls in love with a fun-loving girl Tanu. She, however, seeks his help in eloping with her lover. Tanu and Manu eventually marry. The sequel features the two having problems in their marriage after four years. Tanu falls in love with Manu’s lookalike, Kusum, a Haryanvi sportsperson. This leads to confusion and chaos. The film also starred Jimmy Shergill, Deepak Dobriyal, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Swara Bhaskar in pivotal roles.

Both the films turned out to be a success at the box office and also received critical acclaim. While the first part earned, Rs 56 crore, the second part fared much better, earning Rs 255.3 crore.
