The trailer of Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming film, Homebound was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday. Written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film is based on a New York Times article by Basharat Peer, titled 'Taking Amrit Home'.
The trailer introduces the world of the film, where two best friends, Mohammed Shoiab Ali (Ishaan) and Chandan Kumar (Vishal), desire to work in the police force. The trailer opens with Chandan asking an official about the results of the exam as a part of the roof of his hut falls down. They have a conversation with Janhvi’s character, who seems to be an aspirant too. A friendship seems to blossom between the three. In a scene, Janvhi explains her dream of studying further in order to get respect from people.
At one point, Chandan is asked of his full name and made to feel small by an official. Meanwhile, Shoiab, working as a peon, is asked by his superior not to fill his water bottle. “Once we become cops, no one will dare demean us,” Shoiab tells Chandan. The trailer features some scenes from the lockdown imposed during Covid-19 pandemic as cops are seen beating up a crowd of people, which includes Chandan and Shoiab. The trailer ends with a top-angle shot of a bridge at night on which people are seen walking.
The film features music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Varun Grover. It had its world premiere earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival and won the International People’s Choice Award as the second runner-up at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 recently.
Homebound has been produced by Karan, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier as co-producers. Legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese serves as the executive producer on the film.
It will have its theatrical release on September 26.
