‘Shehar Tere’, a song from Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s upcoming romantic-drama, Gustaakh Ishq, was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday. It is sung by Jazim Sharma and Himani Kapoor with music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Gulzar.
The music video of the song opens with the characters of Vijay and Fatima going different ways. After this, both of them are shown in their own spaces, seemingly missing the presence of the other, going through the pain that has come with distance. The vocals by Jazim carry the weight of longing while Vishal’s music stays simple with a mix of traditional drum beats and some guitar strums. The lyrics by Gulzar are written with a Punjabi flair, highlighting the emotions felt by Vijay and Fatima of not being able to live in the city of the beloved.
Gustaakh Ishq has been directed by Vibhu Puri and it unfolds as a poignant love story of passion and unspoken desire, set amidst the bylanes of Purani Dilli and the fading kothis of Punjab. It has been produced by celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra along with his brother Dinesh Malhotra under their Stage5 Production banner.
Speaking about his foray as a producer with the film, Manish said earlier, “My love for cinema began in childhood. The silver screen was my doorway to the world, watching colours, clothes, music, and lifestyles unfold in cinema halls shaped my imagination and inspired me to become a designer. Today, stepping into film production feels like my way of giving back to the medium that has given me everything.”
Gustaakh Ishq is set to be released in theatres on November 21.
