Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, early this September, opened up on the re-release of his 1995 blockbuster Rangeela on its 30th anniversary this year, saying that the film "stood for aspiration," and he added that the present generation needs to understand how the film shifted the way the genre was looked at.

The latest update from Ultra Media, the organisation that is undertaking the initiative to digitally restore and remaster the film, is that Rangeela will re-release in theatres on November 28.

Rangeela follows a street-smart orphan Munna (Aamir Khan), who sells black tickets to make a living. He befriends Mili (Urmila Matondkar) in the neighbourhood. Both are passionate about films and dream of making it big in the industry. Mili takes definite strides towards her ambition as she becomes a movie extra. Mili is at the verge of a big break as she gets spotted by actor Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff), who invites her for an audition for the heroine role in his upcoming film 'Rangeela'. Soon enough, both Raj and Munna begin to have feelings for Mili. The film takes the shape of a triangular love story from then on. One of the most important reasons why the film still resonates with audiences is AR Rahman's songs and score.

Apart from Aamir, Jackie, and Urmila, the film also features Gulshan Grover, Avtar Gill, Reema Lagoo, Rajesh Joshi, and Achyut Potdar. Produced by Hamu Sughand and Ram Gopal Varma, the rest of the technical crew comprises cinematographer WB Rao and editor Eeshwar Nivas.
