It has been five years since the release of director Hansal Mehta's series Scam 1992, starring Pratik Gandhi in the role of fraudulent stockbroker Harshad Mehta. Ever since its release, the series has been a trendsetter, having set the standard for storytelling in the OTT space in India. While the series is a success story for most, not everyone joined it as just another project. Take actor Paresh Ganatra, known for his comedic roles in films such as No Entry and Welcome, for instance. In an old Digital Commentary interview, Paresh said that he joined the project, despite knowing the lack of significance for his role in the narrative, for a personal reason. The actor said that he was working for a monthly salary of INR 5,000 at the time of the actual scam in 1992, which inspired the film, and that he lost all his savings due to it. Later, when he learnt about Hansal's film, he insisted on portraying the small part in spite of the filmmaker telling him about its significance in the story.

The actor also disclosed that his role of Maheshwari in Scam 1992 was inspired by D Mart owner RK Damani.

The series also starred Shreya Dhanwanthary and Rajat Kapoor, among others. In a recent conversation with CE about their Gandhi project, Hansal said that he, producer Sameer Nair, and Pratik "had a blast making and celebrating Scam" and that "the celebration has not stopped" yet. Earlier today, marking five years of Scam 1992, its production banner Applause Entertainment posted, "The biggest bull run still running strong! Your support was the best ROI."
