The trailer of the animated series Kurukshetra, based on the Mahabharata, was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday.  Conceptualized and created by Anu Sikka, the series is written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly and brought to life by the team at Hitech Animation. It also has songs penned by Gulzar.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the battle of the Mahabharata. The series explores the inner conflicts, personal rivalries, and the heavy toll of India’s greatest dharmayuddh (war of righteousness) that turned family against family. From Arjuna’s agonizing dilemma to Draupadi’s fierce vow for justice; from Duryodhana’s insatiable thirst for power to Bhishma Pitamah’s solemn wisdom, the animated series captures the raw emotions and timeless dilemmas that have resonated across generations.

Named after the battlefield on which the war between the Pandavas and Kauravas was fought, Kurukshetra is set to consist of 18 episodes, for the 18 days of the war. The episodes are set to be released in two parts.

Kurukshetra is one of the few mythological projects that is being made in an animated format. Earlier, Mahavatar Narasimha, based on the story of Varaha Avatar and Narasimha Avatar was released recently.

The series is produced by Tipping Point under the stewardship of Alok Jain, Anu Sikka and Ajit Andhare. It is slated to release on Netflix on October 10.
