The family of late Major Mohit Sharma AC (P) SM has filed a plea appealing a stay on the release of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, citing multiple reasons. The film is directed by Aditya Dhar, and is set to release on December 5.

Major Mohit Sharma was a part of the Indian Army's Para Special Forces Regiment, who was martyred in 2009, while engaging terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dhurandhar has long been rumoured to be based on the life of Major Mohit Sharma, with the theories originating based on Ranveer Singh's look in the film.

The family cites that the film has been made without permission, even after being inspired by the activities of the late Major, according to Bar and Bench. They have also mentioned that after online chatter about the film being inspired by the story of the late Major Mohit Sharma, the filmmakers hasn't acknowledged this nor has the family been consulted.

The family also mentions that the life of a martyr is not for profit and his life cannot be retold without consulting the family. They also cite that their right to privacy and dignity are violated. National security concerns are also raised as a reason by the family.

Earlier, director Aditya took to X to refute the rumours that the film is based on the life of Major Mohit Sharma. He wrote, "I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind."
