Nationalism mixed with blood and gore. The trailer of Dhurandhar, starring an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna and Arjun Rampal, was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Helmed by Uri:The Surgical Strike (2019) director Aditya Dhar, the action-thriller also features Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi.
The trailer opens with Arjun Rampal, with gold plated teeth, a buzz cut and a flowy beard. "After the loss in 1971, there was a wave of sadness in Pakistan. I remember Zia-ul-Haq's(Pakistani military general) words 'bleed India with a thousand cuts," he says, before proceeding to torture a bloodied man who has sharp blade-like wires attached to his body. Arjun plays Major Iqbal of ISI. The trailer then proceeds to introduce the other characters of the film. R Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, the head of R&AW, modeled after NSA head Ajit Doval. Akshaye Khanna plays a ruthless character called Rehman Dakait. Sanjay Dutt is an officer in the Pakistani police and is called Chaudhary Aslam. He is described as a cross between the Devil and the djinn.
Although Ranveer's character is not introduced in the trailer, he seems to be playing an undercover agent who is tasked with infiltrating the terror networks in Pakistan. Reports also state that his character might be modeled after Major Mohit Sharma who infiltrated the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group. The trailer is filled with many violent sequences including people's head being bashed in.
Dhurandhar is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. It is slated to release on December 5.
