Zohran Mamdani, filmmaker Mira Nair and political commentator Mahmood Mamdani's son and a Democratic Party member, recently won the New York City mayoral election. His victory comes with historical significance, as it makes him not only New York City's first-ever Muslim mayor but also its youngest mayor since the early 20th century. At the time of his victory speech, the popular song ‘Dhoom Machale’ from the film Dhoom, starring Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, was played as Mamdani addressed the jubilant crowd. The high-energy track, whose title roughly translates to "make some noise," perfectly captured the celebratory mood and the excitement surrounding Mamdani's historic win. In addition, it lent a Bollywood touch to American politics.

Mira Nair expressed deep pride in her son's achievement. She shared Zoya Akhtar’s Instagram Story, “Zohran, you beauty!” featuring hearts and fireworks emoticons. She set the post to the iconic New York anthem, ‘Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, celebrating a historic political moment in the city. She was also present on stage with her son, Zohran, and her spouse, Mahmood Mamdani, as the new NYC Mayor delivered his victory speech.
