Dressed in his favourite black, donning a Sabyasachi couture, Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut on Tuesday. Although the star looked poised and confident, in an interview with The New York Times he said that he felt “nervous” while being on the red carpet. In a separate interview, the actor revealed that he accepted the invite just for the sake of his kids.

“I’ve never been nervous like this,” SRK told NYT.  “I’m wondering if I can run away from this now,” he added. Shah Rukh also said that he is not a fashion devotee. “I’m a jeans-and-T-shirt person.”

During his Met walk, the 59-year-old repeatedly mentioned how comfortable he was in his designer fit, probably because the one thing missing from his outfit was what makes him the most uncomfortable: shoulder pads. Speaking to NYT, Sabyasachi Mukherjee said the actor doesn’t like those add-ons “that make him look like an aeroplane.”

While on his red-carpet walk, a Vogue correspondent asked SRK about his “history-creating” moment to which he replied that he wasn’t even aware this was going down in history. In fact, he said it was Sabyasachi Mukherjee who convinced him to come after a back-and-forth “wow-and-wow” session upon receiving the invite. “I’ve not done too many red carpets, I’m very shy. For me, this is the first time,” he said, adding that his kids, especially the older ones, Aryan and Suhana, were a lot more excited. “For me, the most exciting thing is that I have little kids who are excited about Met. I don’t know if I would have come here on my own, but when Sabya suggested that I should come, they went ‘wow,’ so I still don’t know,  is it ‘Wow, they called you?’ or ‘Wow, you’ll be good on it’?”

Apart from SRK, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani also made their Met Gala debuts this year.
