Acclaimed filmmakers Shoojit Sircar and Ashwini Iyer Tiwari are set to head the jury for the short film competition at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025. The festival is set to return for its 16th edition from 14 to 24 August this year.

Speaking about being elected as the jury, Shoojit, known for helming Vicky Donor, Piku and Sardar Udham, said in a statement, “IFFM is a wonderful platform that brings together talent from across the globe, and I’m delighted to be part of this year’s short film jury. Short films, with their brevity and intensity, often leave a lasting impact. I’m eager to watch the entries and discover some pathbreaking voices.”

Ashwini called it an honour to be part of the jury. “Short films are a powerful form of expression, often brimming with fresh ideas and daring perspectives. I’m looking forward to witnessing stories that reflect truth, innovation, and the passion of young filmmakers," said the Bareilly Ki Barfi director.

Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik Lange welcomed the new jury members, saying “We are thrilled to have Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Shoojit Sircar join the IFFM Short Film Competition jury. They are among the most respected creative minds in Indian cinema today, and their eye for detail, story, and authenticity will elevate the judging process. IFFM has always aimed to be a launchpad for new talent, and having filmmakers of this calibre assess the submissions is both an honour and an inspiration for participating filmmakers.”

At this year’s IFFM, Aamir Khan will be the chief guest. The superstar will be hoisting the Indian national flag at the festival as part of the its annual Independence Day celebration, a tradition that honours India's spirit and its "vibrant global cultural influence".

IFFM, backed by the Government of Victoria, is "the largest Indian film festival" held outside of India. It will open on August 14 with the premiere of Tillotoma Shome’s Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox).
