Five days after its release, Mahavatar Narsimha is showing no signs of slowing down. Ashwin Kumar's ambitious animated feature on Prahlada and his unwavering devotion for Lord Vishnu, has earned close to Rs 30 crore at the box office across India, an impressive collection for a homegrown animated film.
After a lukewarm response on day 1 with Rs 1.75 crore, the film had registered a massive jump with Rs 4.6 crore on day 2. Day 3 saw another leap with Rs 9.5 crore. On the fourth and fifth days, it earned a cummulative of Rs 13.7 crore, bringing the overall box office collection to Rs 29.55 crore. Within three days of its release, the film had surpassed 2005's Hanuman to become the highest-grossing Indian animated film of all time.
Following its roaring response, Mahavatar Narsimha is also set for release in several countries across the world including Sri Lanka, Australia, Malaysia and across Europe from July 31.
A classic good vs evil story, the mythological story revolves around the well-known Hindu myth of Prahlada, a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. His father, Hiranyakashipu—a mighty king and a staunch atheist—is enraged by his son's unwavering faith. Granted near-immortality by Lord Brahma, Hiranyakashipu repeatedly tries to eliminate Prahlada. But when his cruelty reaches its peak, Lord Vishnu intervenes in his fierce fourth incarnation, Narasimha, to protect Prahlada and vanquish the tyrant king.
The film is presented by Hombale Films, backed by Kleem Productions and produced by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai. The film features an original score by composer Sam CS while the screenplay is penned by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh.
This film is the first in Hombale Films' ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe which features a slate of animated films based on the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The films will be released between 2025 and 2037.
