The trailer of Sanya Malhotra headliner Mrs was unveiled by the makers recently. The film, directed by Arati Kadav, is a Hindi-remake of the 2021 Malayalam movie The Great Indian Kitchen which was helmed by Jeo Baby and starred Nimisha Sajayan in the lead. Mrs also features Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh among others.

In the film, Sanya plays Richa, a dance instructor. She gets married to Nishant’s character and initially it’s all marital bliss but then the horrors of household chores start creeping in. Richa’s patriarchal father-in-law (played by Kanwaljit) prefers the old-school ways of cooking and thus, Richa has to painstakingly grate vegetables on a stone slab. The household work becomes a task everyday as Richa has to wash utensils, clothes, fix a leaking sink pipe and prepare meals for the oblivious and inconsiderate men of the house. The film explores the horrors of patriarchy through a homemaker’s everyday ordeal.

Speaking about her character Richa, Sanya said, “My character’s journey is one of quiet resilience, as she goes from doing the dishes to dreaming big again. It’s been a rewarding challenge to play someone who dares to break free from the routine and find her voice.”

Mrs is slated to release on ZEE5 on February 7.
