Saif Ali Khan in statement to cops: My grip loosened after the stranger stabbed me repeatedly

His attacker, identified as Bangladeshi national Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir aka Vijay Das, was presented at a magistrate court in Bandra on Friday

Actor Saif Ali Khan has recorded a statement with Mumbai Police, detailing the incidents of the night when he was attacked by a robber at his Bandra residence.

As per a report in The Times of India, on the night of January 16, Saif and his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan were in their bedroom, while son Taimur was in another room with a nurse. His youngest Jehangir was in a separate bedroom with staff nurse Eliyamma Phillip and a domestic helper when Eliyamma noticed the intruder.

"Saif said he and Kareena came out of the bedroom on hearing Phillip's scream and Jehangir crying. He saw a stranger attacking Eliyamma. So, he charged at him and grabbed him. The stranger stabbed him to escape,” a police officer was quoted as per the report. The actor said in a statement to the police, "My grip loosened after the stranger stabbed me repeatedly on my back with a knife after I overpowered him."

Police said after the attack, Saif's sons Ibrahim and Taimur took him to hospital in an auto. Saif was admitted to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent two surgeries following stab injuries, including on his neck and near the spine. He was discharged from the private hospital on January 21.
