Alia Bhatt's Alpha moves release date to avoid clash with Salman Khan's Battle of Galwan: Reports

Directed by Shiv Rawail (The Railway Men), Alpha also stars Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles

Alia Bhatt's much-anticipated film Alpha, which was scheduled to release on April 17, 2026, has moved its release date once again, according to reports. The move was made to avoid box office clash with Salman Khan's Battle of Galwan after the production house learned that Khan's film was also aiming to release their film around the same time.

Directed by Shiv Rawail (The Railway Men), Alpha also stars Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. The characters of Alia and Sharvari will go toe to toe against Bobby’s character in this brutal showdown that is the first female led film in the YRF Spy Universe. The film was previously postponed from its December 25 date to complete its pending VFX work.

The YRF Spy universe started back in 2012 with Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), Pathaan (2023) and Tiger 3 (2023). The recent film in the universe, War 2, came out earlier this year in August.

A glimpse of Alpha was shown during the post credits scene of War 2 where Bobby Deol made a cameo appearance. It showed him stamping the logo of an agency on a young girl’s hand. When the girl asked what it meant, Bobby’s character answered, “Alpha." He later explained that the symbol is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and also reflects their program’s motto: "The first, the fastest, the strongest."

Meanwhile, Battle of Galwan is based on a chapter in the book India’s Most Fearless 3 (2022), authored by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh where Salman plays the role of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the patriotic war drama also stars Chitrangada Singh in a leading role. The film is inspired by the real‑life 2020 India‑China clash in the Galwan Valley.

Release dates for both the movies are set to be officially announced soon.
