Even two years after it’s release, Animal, the Ranbir Kapoor-Sandeep Reddy Vanga film, continues to generate plenty of discourse online as well as on public platforms. During a recent appearance at the Mumbai edition of We The Women, Mirzapur actor Rasika Dugal spoke about her conscious choices while doing films, and why she wouldn’t do a film like Animal.
Responding to a question by Barkha Dutt where she would have accepted a role like Animal, Rasika said, “No. The things that I wont do is celebrate misogyny or be part of any propaganda film. Those things are non-negotiable for me.”
Further elaboraring on her response, Rasika asserted that she has a problem with ‘the respectability given to the misogyny.’ She added, “I would be very happy to play a character whose politics isnt in sync with mine. For example, I am not Meena Tripathi (her character in Mirzapur) in real life. I don’t go around killing people or violating men. I will be wildly excited as a performer, to understand a mind that I have not understood yet — that lies at the core of why I do what I do as an actor. But its important that the politics of the project is aligned with mine.”
Rasika Dugal was recently seen in the third season of popular OTT series Delhi Crime, where she played the role of Neeti.
