Akshay Kumar took to social media on Saturday to announce that he has started shooting for Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan along with Saif Ali Khan. The film marks the reunion of Akshay and Saif after 18 years.
Akshay shared a video from the shoot where he is seen holding a clapperboard with the name of the film as he wears a T-shirt with the word, “Saint” written on it. Priyadarshan is seen insisting Akshay that he should attach the word “Haiwaan (Evil)” instead. Akshay is heard saying, “For all you know, he (Saif) must be the devil.” Then pointing to himself first and then to Saif, he adds, “This devil you know about and this devil you don’t know about.” Saif and Priyadarshan are seen having a laugh.
Sharing the video, Akshay wrote, “Hum sab hi hain thode se shaitaan, Koi upar se Saint, koi andar se Haiwaan (We all have a little devil inside, some look like saints on the outside, but beasts on the inside). Starting the shoot for Haiwaan today with my absolute favourite captain of the ship, @priyadarshan.official Sir. Great to be working with Saif after nearly 18 years. Let’s get the haiwaniyat rolling!!”.
The film is reportedly a Hindi-remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam-thriller Oppam. In an earlier interview, Saif had confirmed that he is doing the film. "Yes, I am doing a film with Priyadarshan next. I play a blind guy," he had said. While he had kept the rest of the details under wraps, Saif had called the collaboration "very exciting".
Priyadarshan's own film Oppam explores the life of a retired judge, who faces difficulty in protecting his daughter from a convict he imprisoned. However, when he gets murdered, a man with visual impairment, who'd been loyal to the judge, steps in to defend his daughter.
Official confirmation on the plot, however, is awaited.
Akshay and Saif have shared the screen space in films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh Dillagi, Aarzoo, Tu Chor Main Sipahi and Keemat. They last starred in the 2008 actioner Tashan, which also featured Kareena Kapoor Khan and Anil Kapoor.
