The trailer of the season 2 of Kajol’s legal-drama series, The Trial was unveiled by the makers on Friday. Directed by Umesh Bisht, it also stars Jisshu Sengupta, Sonali Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha, Alyy Khan, Kubbra Sait, Gaurav Pandey, and Karanvir Sharma in pivotal roles.

The trailer sets off from where the first season ended as the marriage between Noyonika (Kajol) and Rajiv (Jisshu) gets messier with Noyonika pressing for divorce. Meanwhile Rajiv doesn’t want to jeopardise his political career and tries to convince her not to leave him. Noyonika also takes on newer cases, fighting for her clients in the courtroom. In a scene, she is seen arguing with the judge to let her speak. She also wants to make the marriage work so that it doesn’t affect her kids as the trailer shows glimpses of her motherly instincts, promising a dramatic and thrilling ride-- both in and out of the courtroom.

Speaking about the series, Kajol said in a statement, The trailer offers just a glimpse of the emotional storm Noyonika is about to walk into. This season is darker, deeper, and far more personal, she’s not just fighting legal battles, she’s fighting to keep her world from falling apart! What I love about Noyonika is that she doesn’t have all the answers, but she keeps going with grit, vulnerability, and heart. Stepping back into her shoes felt like revisiting an old wound that never really healed. Season 2 isn’t just a continuation, it's a reckoning. And I hope viewers are going to feel every bit of that storm."

Jisshu spoke of his character and said, "Rajiv is at a turning point; his ambitions have grown, but so has the cost of chasing them. There’s a lot more pressure, more deception, and more emotional undercurrents between him and Noyonika. Their dynamic is intense; it's love, regret, resentment, and vulnerability all rolled into one. As an actor, I loved sinking into those shades. This season asks hard questions about power, relationships, and redemption, and I think it’ll leave audiences with a lot to unpack."

Director Umesh added, "With Season 2, we wanted to raise the emotional and narrative stakes for Noyonika. From a directorial standpoint, the challenge was to balance the intensity of the legal drama with the subtle, internal unraveling of her character. It’s a layered story about power, identity, and the personal cost of standing up for oneself, especially as a woman and we’ve tried to reflect that complexity in every frame."

The first season of the show aired in 2023 and was helmed by Suparn Varma. It is adapted from the American show, The Good Wife.

Produced by Banijay Asia, the series is set to be released on JioHotstar on September 19.
