War 2 box office:
Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2 had an impressive opening on Thursday, however, the film still trailed behind Rajinikanth’s Coolie. As per industry tracker Sacnilk.com, the Ayan Mukerji directorial made Rs 52.5 crore on Day 1 of its release. This includes the film’s collections in all three languages: Hindi (Rs 29 crore), Tamil (Rs 0.25 crore) and Telugu (Rs 23.25 crore).
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, on the other hand, made Rs 65 crore in all languages.
War 2 saw highest occupancy in theatres during night shows at 47.90 per cent, followed by evening shows at 29.03 per cent and afternoon and morning shows at 23.67 per cent and 16.37 per cent, respectively. When it comes to regions, the YRF Spy Universe film saw the highest theatre occupancy at 77.5 per cent (64), followed by Hyderabad at 73.5 per cent (280 shows) and Bengaluru at 49.5 per cent (317 shows). In Mumbai and National Capital Region (NCR), the occupancy was at 22 per cent and 31.5 per cent for 1141 and 1477 shows, respectively.
Apart from Hrithik and NTR, War 2 also stars Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor.
Our review of the film read: “War 2 is an unnecessary addition to an already bloated YRF Spy Universe. It is a factory-line product, assembled purely to cash-in on an established franchise. You take a good-looking Bollywood star, add a South Indian superstar to make things ‘Pan-Indian’, mix it with multiple foreign locations and action sequences in a car, atop a train and even a plane and finally garnish it with a glamorous actress and voila! Blockbuster is ready. Only that it is bland, because neither food nor film can yield an experience by mere compilation.”
