Despite being hailed by many in the industry, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri’s rousing film on caste-oppression Dhadak 2, isn’t performing well on the box office. As per industry tracker Sacnilk. com, the film opened on Friday with a collection of Rs 3.5 crore which only marginally increased to Rs 3.75 crore on Saturday.

This takes the total collection of the Karan Johar production to Rs 7.25 crore.

On Saturday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 25.81%. Morning shows saw 11.73% occupancy, afternoon shows registered 25.61%, and evening shows rose to 29.00%. The highest footfall was during the night shows, which reported an occupancy of 36.88%.

Dhadak 2 released with Ajay Devgn’s comedy Son of Sardaar 2 which has earned Rs 14.75 crore in two days, almost double of the Shazia Iqbal directorial.

The film is also facing stiff competition from Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara which made Rs 6.75 crore even on its third Saturday.

Dhadak 2 is written by Rahul Badwelkar and Shazia Iqbal. It is a Hindi adaptation of Mari Selvaraj’s 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. Apart from Siddhant and Triptii, the film also features Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Sachdeva and Vipin Sharma in pivotal roles.

Our review of the film read: “Dhadak 2 is miles ahead of its predecessor Dhadak (2018) which was a watered-down remake of the Marathi film Sairat (2016). It is a momentous start for the mainstream Hindi film, a necessary plunge into the caste dynamics of love stories, which have been the USP of Bollywood for decades. But it can go only as deep. In some ways the film repairs the cracks in the original, but all its good parts are still borrowed. Dharma’s aesthetic takes away the raw grittiness of the film.”
