Sunny Deol’s actioner Jaat has caught itself in a controversy as some members of the Christian community have expressed their objection over a church scene in the film. As per a report in Money Control, they found the scene to be an insult to their beliefs and have demanded a ban on the film.

In the scene, Randeep Hooda’s character is seen standing below a crucifix in a church, above the place where worshippers pray. His character is also seen intimidating and resorting to hooliganism, which has irked the Christian community.

Representatives of the community feel that the scene disrespects the sanctity of the church and hurts their religious sentiments by painting Christianity in a negative light. They had planned protests outside theatres showing the film; however, local police stopped the demonstrations. They have issued a two-day ultimatum to the authorities, saying that the protests will intensify if no action is taken.

There has been no official statement made by the makers of the film in this regard.

Jaat is directed by Gopichand Malineni and was released in theatres on April 10.
