The 1993 thriller, directed by Abbas-Mustan, marked a major shift in Shah Rukh’s career and paved the way for anti-heroes in Bollywood

Producer Ratan Jain recently confirmed in an interview that discussions with Shah Rukh Khan for a potential Baazigar (1993) sequel are ongoing. While talking to ETimes, Ratan said that although no concrete plans or a script is in place, he will proceed with the project only if SRK is there in the lead role.

He mentioned that while the idea is exciting, it would require a compelling script and fresh direction to ensure it meets the high standards of the original film, given its legacy and fan expectations. "We keep talking to Shah Rukh about Baazigar 2 but not much has happened but it will definitely be made,” he said.

Baazigar, directed by Abbas-Mustan, marked a major shift in Shah Rukh’s career and paved the way for anti-heroes in Bollywood, which was, till then, known to have mostly straight-arrow protagonists. The film was initially offered to Anil Kapoor and then Salman Khan, when both backed out, SRK took up the role. The thriller film stars SRK as Ajay Sharma/ Vicky Malhotra, a young man who is out to take revenge against an industrialist for his father’s death.

The film was a major critical and commercial success. It also starred Kajol and marked the debut of Shilpa Shetty.
