Rohit Shetty on the difficulty in doing some scenes in today’s climate: We won’t know what people might object to

Rohit Shetty opened up recently about how it is difficult to create certain scenes in today’s climate and said that people may object to anything. He also referred to a comic scene from the iconic Sholay (1975) and said that the part where Dharmendra’s character pretends to be god would not be possible to do today.

In a conversation with Youtuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Rohit said, “We won’t know what people might object to or what would make them feel bad. There is a scene in Sholay where Dharmendra stands behind a Lord Shiva idol and talks pretending to be god. We can’t do such a scene today.”

He also spoke about his own films and said that the character of Laxman from his Golmaal series (Shreyas Talpade), would be difficult to execute. “If I were to make the (Golmaal) movies today, I will get trolled saying I am making fun of stammering. That’s the difference (between then and now). Even if that’s not the intention… he is one among the heroes in the film.”

He added, “Now we are very scared and judgemental. We have to constantly speculate as to if people will get offended about something or not. The Golmaal movies have a cult following now and we are not laughing at that person but the situations he has found himself in. Nonetheless, if the movie were to release today, I would definitely face trolling,”

Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again released in theatres on November 1 and features a plot that shows parallels to the mythological epic of Ramayana. It stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff.
