Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki will be screened at Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) 2024 in the International Panorama section. Director Rajkumar Hirani will be present at the festival during the screening. SIFF commenced on June 14.

Dunki also stars Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles. It tells the story of illegal immigration of a few friends from India to the United Kingdom, also called ‘donkey flight’. Shah Rukh played the role of an army man who made people sneak into the UK as they were not able to clear the official process.

Speaking about the film earlier to ANI, Rajkumar had reflected on the research process of the film and said, “When we did the research, we found that about 7 percent of people in the country have a passport. Many people dream of going abroad but very few get the visa. It is very difficult. We want unique stories for making a film and I found it good.”

Dunki was the third film of Shah Rukh Khan in 2023 and fared well at the box-office earning over Rs. 454 crore globally, according to Sacnilk.com.

Our review of the film read, “Dunki is boring at times, which is the worst criticism for a Rajkumar Hirani film. The screenplay, penned by Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon lacks both thrills and giggles. The film feels a juxtaposition of ideas inspired (read: copied) from Hirani’s previous releases. There is a drunken expedition played for humour, English words and phrases are butchered to elicit laughter, and a death occurs only to give the characters a deeper sense of purpose.”
