Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, made Rs. 11.38 crore in all languages in four days since its release. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened with Rs. 2.45 crore on Friday, followed by a rise to Rs. 3.45 crore on Saturday and Rs. 3.83 crore on Sunday.

On Monday, there was a sharp decline in the box-office numbers for the film as it managed to earn Rs. 1.65 crore. It is currently facing tough competition from the Telugu film HanuMan and the Dhanush-starrer Captain Miller in the south belt. Merry Christmas was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil with different supporting actors.

The film is based on Frédéric Dard's French Novel Le Monte-charge (Bird in a Cage) and also has Tinnu Anand, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte playing supporting characters in the Hindi version. The Tamil version features Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams.

Our review of the film read: “Sriram Raghavan sets his story with relish like he is spreading a picnic mat. Most of Merry Christmas is build-up but not the kind where you are impatient for shit to go down. It’s so comforting, I wouldn’t mind living in it. But since this is a mystery-thriller, murder is inevitable. Once the body is found, Raghavan turns up the turntable.”
