Veteran actor Dharmendra has been credited as Dharmendra Singh Deol for the first time in the opening titles of his new film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. Singh Deol is his family surname, which he had refrained from using since his first film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, which came out in 1960. Unlike their father, actors Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol retained the family surname when they came into the Hindi film industry.

The veteran actor was born on December 8, 1935, to Satwant Kaur and Kewal Kishan Singh Deol in Punjab. He was born and brought up in Punjab’s Sahnewal village before he migrated to Bombay to pursue a career in acting.

Recently, Dharmendra's performance as Ranveer Singh’s grandfather in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani earned him much fanfare. He will next feature in Sriram Raghavan’s upcoming film starring Agastya Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson.
