Actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub won the Best Asian Actor award for the journalism-thriller series Scoop at the Septimius Awards that were held on August 20 at the Tuschinski Theatre in Amsterdam.
The show’s creator and director, Hansal Mehta, took to X on Thursday to congratulate the actor. He posted a screenshot from the awards’ website, which mentions Mohammed as the winner in the Best Asian Actor category. “You can’t keep a good man down. Congratulations @Mdzeeshanayyub for this much delayed but very richly deserved award. This one’s for all those juries that chose to ignore your stellar performance in #Scoop. Best Asian Actor #Scoop at the Septimius Awards, Amsterdam. @SeptimiusAwards,” Hansal captioned the post.
Scoop is inspired by the book Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison by Jigna Vora, who was arrested on suspicion of being part of a conspiracy that led to the murder of her peer. The 2023 series revolves around Jagruti Pathak (Karsihma Tanna), a driven crime reporter, whose profession becomes her bane when she is framed for conspiring to kill a fellow journalist. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub plays the role of her principled editor in the series.
There were other Indian wins at the awards as well. Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan won Best Asian Film at the Septimius Awards.
