Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut film Dil Chahta Hai completed 23 years since its release in 2001, he said in an Instagram post. The buddy film starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Preity Zinta and Dimple Kapadia.

Sharing a short video that gave a glimpse into some scenes from the film, playing over the title track by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Farhan wrote in the caption, “Here’s to lifelong friendships. To the cast, crew and audience, your love has kept Dil Chahta Hai alive for 23 years.”

The film told the story of three close friends who are separated after their college gets over as they start their own individual journeys. An incident brings them together as the film goes back in flashback, delving into the different ideas of love and what it means to each one of them.

Dil Chahta Hai was met with critical acclaim and did well at the box-office after it released. It brought a fresh move in the narratives of Hindi cinema, showing the lives of urban people and relationships.
