The 2018 film Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali and written and presented by Imtiaz Ali, will be re-released in theatres nationwide on Friday (August 9). The film was recently released on the big screen in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, where it is set.

The romance-drama is produced by Imtiaz’s ex-wife Preety and Ektaa Kapoor. It marked the lead debut of Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri.

The film, a modern-day adaptation of the classic folklore, received a lukewarm response at the box office but over the years it garnered a cult status.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Imtiaz thanked fans for their love that has led the Hindi film to re-release in cinema halls after six years.

"Laila Majnu back on popular demand!!! Gratitude to your love that pulled it into theatres again after six years!! Re-releasing 9th Aug '24 in cinemas nationwide (check picture) congratulations team LM," he wrote.

Avinash and Triptii later collaborated again on 2020’s Bulbbul. Avnaish was last seen in Madgaon Express, while Triptii recently featured in Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk starrer Bad Newz.
