Actor Ranveer Singh has filed an FIR against a social media handle that was promoting an AI-generated deepfake video of him purportedly sharing his political views. The official spokesperson of the actor has confirmed that a police complaint and an FIR has been lodged for further investigation by the Cyber Crime Cell.

“Yes, we have filed the police complaint and FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh,” the spokesperson said.

The video is from the actor’s latest visit to Varanasi where he turned showstopper for a show organised by designer Manish Malhotra. During his visit to the city, the actor spoke highly of the changes that have come about in terms of the public infrastructure overhaul while also sharing his 'divine' experience of the city. Although the video hasn’t been tampered with, the audio here is is of an AI-enabled voice clone of Ranveer.

When the video started being shared on social media, Ranveer took to his Instagram stories and posted, "Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn (Be wary of deepfakes, friends).”

On the work front, Ranveer was last seen alongside Alia Bhatt in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He is set to reprise his role of Simmba in Rohit Shett’s police actioner Singham Again.
