PM Modi: Waheeda Rehman's journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark

On Tuesday, The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur announced that veteran actor Waheeda Rehman will be presented with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year. 

Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official X handle to congratulate the legendary actor. He wrote, "Delighted that Waheeda Rehman Ji has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. Her journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark. A beacon of talent, dedication and grace, she embodies the best of our cinematic heritage. Congratulations to her."

Rehman made her acting debut in 1955 in the Telugu film industry. She appeared in films like Rojulu Maraayi and Jayasimha. She is known to have collaborated frequently with Dev Anand. They worked together on films such as C.I.D. (1956), Solva Saal (1958), Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962) and Guide (1965). She also worked closely with Guru Dutt and starred with him in films like, Pyaasa (1957), 12 O’Clock (1958), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960) and Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962).

Notably, 2023 is Rehman’s frequent collaborator Dev Anand’s 100th birth year.
