Subhash Ghai on 43 years of Karz: The film is undeniably Rishi Kapoor’s finest performance

Subhash Ghai’s 1980 musical classic Karz completed 43 years today. The director posted a throwback picture on Instagram from the film’s muhurat shot featuring the late actor Rishi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha.

Karz is known for his iconic music given by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Its songs ‘Ek Haseena Thi’‘Dard-E-Dil’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’ have been widely regarded over the years. “The music from Karz holds a special place in my heart and will always remain dear to me,” said Ghai on the film completing 43 years.

“The film also, is undeniably Chintuji's (Rishi Kapoor) finest performance. It's heartening to know that even the younger generation today resonates with the music of Karz,” he added.

Reminiscing the film’s fisrt song and muhurat shot, the veteran director said, “I vividly remember, the first song of Karz‘Dard-E-Dil’ was recorded with Mohammad Rafi Saab with music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The mahurat shot of Karz took place on 24th October 1978 and featured Shatrughan Sinha.”

Apart from Karz, Ghai is also known for films like Hero (1983), Ram Lakhan (1989) and Khalnayak (1993) among others. His last directorial was the 2014 film Kaanchi: The Unbreakable.
