Chhatriwali trailer out: Rakul Preet Singh becomes a sex educator

CE Features

The trailer of Rakul Preet Singh-starrer Chhatriwali is out. In the film, Rakul portrays Sanya, a married woman who takes up the mantle of sex education and safe sex after her sister-in-law dies of a miscarriage.

OTT star Sumit Vyas plays the role of Rakul's would-be husband. A small-town shopkeeper, he's a sweet dunce, refusing to wear a condom on their first night. It's a world where everyone talks in codes, wary of sex talk, like Rajesh Tailang's reticent schoolteacher. However, Rakul changes it around as she gathers adults and children alike to give them the facts of life. 'Optional nahi, compulsory hai,' reads a tagline.

Talking about Chhatriwali, Rakul said, "In today's patriarchal society, every household needs a Sanya who holds the courage to single-handedly fight against all odds, traditions, social norms, and barriers. I hope this character inspires others to find their voice and speak up against unsafe sex and the many health implications of not using protection."

She continued, "India's youth make up for majority of the population and educating them on safe sex is the need of the hour, so I am glad that Chhatriwali is catering to them and everyone else in a progressive and entertaining manner. I have respect and only respect for the incredible team behind this extraordinary project."
