In a role that channels Bruce Lee, animal rights advocate Meet Ashar and Tony Jaa from Tom-Yum-Goong, Anshuman Jha masks up as India's homegrown animal-loving vigilante in Lakadbaggha. The film's trailer was released in Mumbai on Tuesday. It stars Anshuman along with Ridhi Dogra, Milind Soman and Paresh Pahuja.

Arjun Bakshi (Anshuman) is an easygoing 27-year-old martial arts teacher in Kolkata. During the nights, he's a hooded street fighter, rescuing stray dogs from illegal catchers. Arjun's Karate and Krav Maga chops are put to test when he goes searching for his missing dog Shonku and in the process unearths the illegal animal trade industry at the Kolkata port.

As he intercepts the poachers, a stolen striped hyena, the 'Lakadbaggha' of the title, escapes their clutches. A battle thus ensues, between the wicked animal trade kingpin and the earnest do-gooders on Arjun's side.

For the role, Anshuman, known for films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele, trained with Krav-Maga expert Tsahi Shemesh in New York before starting the shoot.

The film has a heavy international crew—French cinematographer Jean Marc Selva, Belgian composer Simon Fransquet and action by the Ong-Bak 2's Ketcha Khamphakdee.

Directed by Victor Mukherjee, Lakadbaggha is slated for release on January 13, 2023.
